Michael Johnson
Hi there, I’m Michael. I’ll be working at Mosaic Innovations for a while, while earning college credit and of course valuable industry experience (in between coffee runs).
I will be graduating next semester from VCU with a BS in Strategic Advertising and will soon after be hitting the advertising industry in the gut with my enthusiasm for engaging branding. I believe advertising should be more than a guy on the corner with a bullhorn. Our industry is constantly changing and it’s headed in a direction that requires a constant awareness of what’s going on within society, and most importantly, it requires knowing how to use that information to engage current and potential customers with your brand. None of us live inside a bubble, or on an island – in fact I believe we all live on the same island, and it’s becoming smaller and smaller as our means of communication grow easier and larger. Advertising in this cluttered digital world we live in may be complicated and sometimes difficult to figure out, but that’s what makes it fun and exciting, it’s a challenge.
A stat sheet about me would most likely tell you that I am from Charlottesville, VA via Williamsburg via Charlotte, NC, have a kindle that has recently collected more dust than some of my books, the internet and data research is oddly enough fun for me, have a brother who I would swear is my twin if we weren’t 4 years apart, use up the majority of my xfinity bandwidth with Netflix, was a professional photographer for several years, love trying new beers (but I’m no beer snob), and am horrible at writing concise simple biographies.
I look forward to meeting you! (I’ll be the one with the coffee, behind Catherine and Rene).

Being a Fine Art major I thought having a few marketing and advertising classes would assist in transferring my creativity to the business world. Expanding my experience to different areas rather than just having the training as a “starving artist”. The internship with Mosaic has definitely showed me another side to the creative aspect of business. The creative side of ad design is part of my duties with Mosaic but since Mosaic is a marketing…not just an advertising company they deal with the business side of things rather than only ad design. This internship has taught me about helping businesses promote themselves in a new way, or tweaking how they are promoting themselves currently to show more results. Having impact on sales, traffic to the store, and an overall response to the advertising.
Marketing not only includes radio, TV, print and outdoor, but now there is the social marketing aspect that plays a huge role in connecting more personally with people. My generation is the beginning of this adaptation in marketing so this internship with Mosaic has taught me more about how social marketing and it’s impact on businesses and response. Mosaic has taught me new things about social marketing but I have also brought a different understanding of how it is used and can be used.
